My Solar Images - Dave Smith, Maldon

Welcome to my website showing pictures of our nearest star as seen in a safely filtered telescope.

WARNING - DO NOT ATTEMPT TO VIEW THE SUN WITH ANY INSTRUMENT UNLESS IT IS SAFELY FILTERED.

Only use well established filters made especially for the purpose. Some telescopes come with a so-called solar filter that screws into the eyepiece. DO NOT USE THESE - They are extremely dangerous and you could lose your eyesight.

I am currently using two methods to view and image the Sun. To view the Sun in so called White Light I use a Lunt Solar Wedge.

An eyepiece or camera fits in the top and the wedge fits in the end of a small refracting telescope. I use a William Optics Megrez 90 and a

ZWO ASI 174MM camera.

From 22 September 2022 Hydrogen alpha images are taken with a LUNT LS800MT/B1800FT Ha telescope.

The top scope is the Megrez 90 with the Lunt wedge for white light imaging and the lower scope is the Lunt 80mm.
